About Me
DJ Crookid is an upcoming DJ on the soulful house music scene. He was born and raised in New York State but has resided in London for the last decade. It is here that he has recaptured his love for djing and uplifting soulful house music.
He started djing as a teenager where he was introduced to New York clubs and an opportunity of taking over the decks developed into a passion that was to be rekindled in London almost a decade later. His flair for music started at a young age, he was classically trained to play the clarinet and to read sheet music. It was these melodic sounds that captured his spirit setting him off on his musical journey!
Now, the name DJ Crookid has become synomous with great music selection and djing talent playing at events from Ministry of Sound, Pacha and other clubs across the UK and Europe. His musical influences include the likes of Masters At Work (MAW), Kerri Chandler, Frankie Feliciano, Alix Alvarez and Franck Roger to name a few. His radio debut started on London's pirate radio station circuit starting on Select UK, then a residency on London’s Unknownfm. Now you can catch his live show every Sunday on ustream.com playing the best in deep, soulful, minimal, funky and afro uplifting vocal house music making it a smooth and tight blending session/show for all his loyal listeners.
2009 saw the launch of ‘Ancestral Soul’ with fellow musical enthusiast; Sheyi, saw them hold events throughout 2009/10. This event has gone from strength to strength and has hosted some international producers/djs such as DJ Romain, Abicah Sole as well as joint events with Tribe Records and Slick Management. Ancestral Soul have also held events at Pacha and hosting a room at Egg is on the cards for later this year. On top of all this Crookid is an A&R Consultant for Faada.
The next year and beyond will see Crookid playing at big events across the UK and there are some international dates in the pipeline. 2010 has got off to a great start so watch this space for even more exciting projects to come in the New Year!
