Track Eleven

Annie, this is a wonderful discovery for me of Dolls Combers! Very fresh, jazzy sound that turns into Richard Earnshaw-like funk house and even nu disco and disco funk at some places.

It is much more jazzy than Earnshaw, with lots of electric piano solos, trumpets and horns but it still has that deep house sound - quite unique and quite soulful.

Love the consistency again - great selection of tracks! Really nice, sunny, bright, uplifting feeling, some points it reminds me of my own Journey To The Sun mix... Well of course most of your mixes remind me of my own music, you just have such the same taste.

I should really call out the effort you put into discovering not that well known artists (well, I have never heard of Dolls Combers at least) - bringing in music from different places of the world, this time from Italy.

It's also good to see Italy being true to its roots, well, there was Italo Disco with very good and also quite cheesy tracks, but Italy is musically very sophisticated and there is a huge funk culture down there. I was in Como two years ago and saw a random Saturday night street concert, the local band was just so tight and funky that I could not belive it. They were playing their own songs with italian vocals, but it was as tight as Roy Ayers or Jamiroquai. I was quite surprised and impressed.

I have the same feeling, somehow all tracks here have another level of quality, it's not the average funky deep house, everything is more fresh and more sophisticated - like Track 8 where you hear that those people can play the piano, the trumpet and the guitar and put in a proper jazz improvizative solos into a house track, not just someone trying to make a mood with a few piano chords. Track 8 could pass as an Incognito track.

My only criticism is that it should have been released under "Journey To The Sun" in collaboration with me

Also, nice sequel to your Earnshaw-only mix, great idea to show a single artist with no other tracks. As mentioned, I will also start a "Spotlight On" series with the same concept - we could have even doen this one together in collaboration! OK, just evny again - now I go and buy Dolls Combers tracks...

Dimsa will love this I'm pretty sure!
