Mixupload : Hello David. Give us a few short words to present yourself to the mixupload readers.
I’m a French dj producer : dj since 10 years and I started production 4 years ago. I play house and electro.
Mixupload : What are your musical influences ?
I appreciate different styles of house music : electro, vocal house, latino, oriental, disco…
Mixupload : Can you tell us a little about the course of your DJ career so far ?
At first I worked as resident in Paris at “ Les Bains â€, “ Folies Pigalle â€, “ Amnesia â€, and now at “ Redlight â€.
Since I have my weekly radio show " Cosa Nostra " on Radio FG (on thursday from 10 to 11 pm).
In 2002, I started production and signed 3 maxis on Antoine Clamaran's label "Pool-e-Musicâ€.
In the same time I started to play throughout the world : from Ibiza (Pacha, Amnesia) to New-York (Centro Fly), by Russia, Columbia, North and South Africa, Denmark, Greece, Swiss, Germany, Spain…
In 2004 Roger Sanchez asked me to make several remixes for his label “Stealth†(as A Tribe called es : Dancin’ remix)
My last production “ Love to love you baby †has been signed on the French label Dj Center, and we made a videoclip that you can see on TV now.
My brand new production “ Unidos para la musica †is out this month on Stealth Records (and Dj Center for France). It’s hardly supported by excellent djs as Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez, Tom Novy, Paul Van Dyk, Michael Gray…you can’t miss the voice of my singer Akram, so warm and hypnotic !
At the moment, I’m working on my first album, to be released in summer 2007 !
Mixupload : Which people inspired you to invest your time in the dancefloor scene?
Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, Erick Morillo, Morales, … the Godfathers of House music !
Mixupload : Do you remember your first DJ event? Was it a good or bad memory?
It was at “ Les Bains †where I was resident in 2002. An excellent party, with a lot of Spanish girls…
Mixupload : Which track first truly inspired you?
Kraftwerk : “Transeuropexpressâ€, I was listening to this group when I was a teenager.
To me, they are the creator of the electronic music.
Mixupload : What's the single track that's doing it for you at the moment?
Fairmont : “Gazeboâ€
Mixupload : Which disc/vinyl do you always carry in your flycase/record bag?
Jaydee : “ Plastic Dream â€, it’s a classic, for my part.
Mixupload : Choose a genre that interests you in the dancefloor scene at the moment. Tells us why..
Actually I use different styles of house music in my sets, and in my productions as well.
Mixupload : With which DJ ('s) would you like to collaborate?
I already collaborate with djs that I appreciate and respect a lot as : Roger Sanchez, Kurd Maverick, Sander Kleinenberg, Chus & Ceballos, Sebastian Ingrosso…
But I would be interesting by remixing Mike Monday, Switch, Trentemoller, Ame, Mark Knight and MTV.
Mixupload : What do you think about the emergence of new software mixing tools such as PCDJ or Traktor?
I do not use it. I mix with cds only.
Mixupload : Do you think that the MP3 format and tools such as mixupload represent a risk for the trade or a new, more dynamic way of promotion?
Internet gives the possibility to everybody (not only djs) to reach for electronic music.
So I think Mp3 is an incredible way of promotion for a dj.
Mixupload : What advice would you offer someone new to the DJ scene, looking to launch a career?
Patience, will, maturity, but also chance, are needed to meet the persons who like your work and help you to make your dream come true.
